CALL FOR SPEAKERS

The High Altitude Wind Power Conference invites additional speakers to submit abstracts of their 15-20 minute presentation proposals for the afternoon session at the Cleantech Innovation Center on November 5, 2009. We are seeking speakers from academia,private industry, government, and non profit organizations as well as inventors of airborne devices intended to capture wind energy. Presentations must be relevant to the theme of capturing wind energy with airborne devices or quantifying this power resource. In order to facilitate finalizing the conference schedule in time to allow you to make travel arrangements, the selection committee will make a final decision on the acceptance of additional speakers no later than October 16th. 
 
Please email us directly with an attached biography of up to 150 words and a abstract of your proposed presentation as it pertains to the conference theme, ‘The Power of Wind in High Places”.

Registration

Conference begins November 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.

Registration fees include registration for the This Way to Sustainability 2009 Conference at CSU, Chico, and the conference dinner Thursday evening at the world famous Sierra Nevada Brewery restaurant.

General Admission $125
Student Admission $35


To qualify for student fees, you must be currently enrolled in a college or university. Student identification will be required to be admitted at this fee.

Getting to Chico

By Car

From Highway 99 Going North To Chico  
Stay on Highway 99 North to Chico. Exit Highway 99 at Highway 32 turning left onto E. Eight Street to and through downtown Chico. Continue west to Chestnut Street. Turn right on Chestnut Street and continue north for six blocks to W. Second Street and the University.

From Highway 99 Going South To Chico 
Take the E. First Avenue exit and turn right. Go west to the Esplanade and turn left onto the Esplanade into downtown Chico and onto Broadway. Turn right on Second Street and go three blocks to Chestnut Street and the University.

By Air

You can fly directly into Chico via a short 45 minute flight from San Francisco airport (SFO).  
 
The Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is the closest major airport. It is 90 miles south of Chico and is served by most major carriers. You can rent a car or catch a shuttle at the Sacramento Airport. The highways north of Sacramento are usually traffic free.

Flying Into Chico Airport - (CIC) 
There are several flights daily between San Francisco (SFO) and Chico Municipal Airport (CIC) via United Airlines operated by United Express/Sky West. Hertz operates a small rental car operation at the airport. Budget and Enterprise have off-airport rental offices in Chico. Call ahead for reservations.

By Train or Bus

Train Service 
AMTRAK and Greyhound Bus also have regular service into downtown Chico, although hours are limited. The AMTRAK train depot is located at W. Fifth and Orange Streets, telephone: 895-8000 or 800-872-7246. The train leaves twice daily at 3:06 a.m. southbound and 1:42 a.m. northbound. The San Joaquin is a combination train and bus ride that leaves Chico three times daily, all southbound at 9:25 a.m., 11:55 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. This service terminates in downtown Los Angeles. Contact your local travel agencies for details.

Bus Service 
The Greyhound bus depot is located at W. Fifth & Orange Streets. Call them for the schedule and current fares at 530-343-8266 or 1-800-231-2222.

Getting Around Chico

By Car

By Bus

Transportation services will be available to and from local hotels (and B&Bs) during the conference.
